firstly are you sure he is a he have you had him sexed ?? my macaw does the same thing we were told it was female and remaind so till last year when she was sexed by the vet only to find it was male the vet said its a mateing act as he does this more frequently after a moult,,,hes not stupid but just doing what all birds do good luck,,,enjoy his antics

I am quite certain that that is a whiteface male (I have one too).
Otherwise I might have suggested it was a sexual response because pressing on the back at all might seem sexual to a bird (females in particular).

The photos remind me of birds having a bath.
I think it’s just a funny little thing he does. He does it for fun and laughs.

Its my guess that your HE is a SHE. Anything on her back
makes her receptive. Best way I know how to find out if it is
a male or female is to check the vent. Female,s vent is more
like a __ for egg laying, where as a male is more like an A.
This is true with 98% of all foul. If your bird really is a male
then you just have a silly bird. Lots of luck and hope that helps

birds go funny when you scratch them on their back it's because they think it tickles or it's itchy!

That’s exactly how they react when bathing too so he might just enjoy it. It’s normal behaviour & perfectly fine.

All mine do the same thing also when different things are done they enjoy.

EDIT: to the poster below. The HE is NOT a she. Looking at the pics it is clearly a MALE white face normal grey.

i got a bird 2 some times it tickles and the feathers are right on the bone so b careful and scactch there head lightly and let it get used 2 it
